Yvonne Slosarski is the Senior Communications Strategist for the ACLU of D.C. She works with communities, staff, and media to tell stories and create materials that empower District residents.

Yvonne earned her Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Maryland, where she researched social and economic justice movements and protest. She has taught college courses that included public speaking, critical thinking, strategic writing, and gender studies. While in graduate school, Yvonne organized with her coworkers to improve working conditions and to legalize grad student unionization. Yvonne has also led political and legislative campaigns and run academic programs. Most recently, Yvonne ran Maryland/DC communications for 1199SEIU, the nation’s largest healthcare workers union.

Yvonne has called the District home since 2011 and has organized with neighbors to improve housing conditions, fight eviction, increase traffic safety, and fund public education.

Yvonne is from Chicago and spent childhood summers in Poland, where her parents immigrated from and where Yvonne has dual citizenship. She enjoys exploring parks and neighborhoods, making up songs, chatting, reading, and eating delicious food. She lives in Ward 5 with her daughter, husband, and two cats.
