The ACLU of the Nation’s Capital works to protect and extend the civil liberties guaranteed primarily by the Bill of Rights or the U.S. Constitution in our local community. We take requests for legal help in writing. (Note: If you think the government infringed upon your civil liberties outside of the District of Columbia, look up your local ACLU affiliate to request legal help where the situation occurred.)

If your civil liberties or civil rights were violated, you may email us at [email protected] or file a complaint through our web portal. Another way to contact us about a civil rights or civil liberties violation is to leave a voicemail at 202-601-4269, but please note that intakes received through our web portal or [email protected] are processed up to twice as fast as voicemails. If you do leave a voicemail, please include your email and/or mailing address.
