Firefighter Pollard is Muslim, and he follows the Islamic teaching that one’s pants must be worn above the ankles. In 2012 the D.C. Fire Department denied an exception to its dress code, but after ACLU testimony to the D.C. Council about this situation in February 2013, the Department backed off and granted him an exception to its dress code.
