ACLU-D.C. BOARD NOMINATIONS 2026

It's that time of year again! This is your chance to nominate members for the ACLU-D.C. Board of Directors. Please send petitions by the July 17, 2026 deadline.

Each year one third, or eight seats, of the Board of Directors of the ACLU-D.C. are elected by ACLU-D.C. members. Board members serve three-year terms and are responsible for governance and fiduciary oversight, as well as attendance at six meetings each year.

Petition for Candidacy

Nominations may be submitted by petition. The petitioner must be a member in good standing. Nomination petitions must include the name, address and a statement of interest from the nominee. Petitions must be signed by the nominee expressing their willingness to serve if elected and be signed by twenty-five (25) ACLU-D.C. members, in good standing as of June 6, 2026. Petitioners may use their own form. Submit a petition via email to [email protected] by the July 17, 2026 deadline.

Process

2026 Important Board Election Dates

  • June 5, 2026: Nominating Committee sends recommended slate, voting instructions to members via ACLU-D.C. emails. Note: You might be subscribed the ACLU-D.C. emails in order to get this message. Sign up here.
  • July 17, 2026: Petitions due.
  • July 30, 2026: Ballots e-mailed to members; voting begins.*
  • August 28, 2026: Voting ends.*

* Ballots are mailed to membership only if petitions are received and the election is contested. If the election is uncontested, the Board of Directors votes to approve the slate put forth by the Nominating Committee at their July meeting.

All those nominated, whether by committee or petition, must submit a statement (300 words or less) and a headshot or small photo (2x3” at 300 dpi). Candidates may use their own petition form.

Board elections are conducted online. Voting information is provided via email to members in good standing as of June 6 every year. All members are provided with a unique voting code prior to voting opening. Candidate statements and photos will be online for review prior to voting.
